Job Requirements & Responsibilities

Job Title: Mobile Phlebotomist / Field Specimen Collector (EMS Proficient)
​Position Type: Full-Time / Part-Time / PRN (On-Call)
Location: Field-Based (Florida Mobile Coverage Area)
​
1. Core Job Responsibilities
​

Field Specimen Collection: Perform mobile venipunctures, fingersticks, and buccal/DNA swabs at residential homes, corporate offices, law firms, and specialized environments (e.g., correctional facilities).
​​

Strict Chain of Custody: Execute rigorous documentation, identity verification, photography, and fingerprinting (if applicable) for legal, court-admissible testing (paternity, estate/probate cases, and forensic samples).
​​

Mobile Agility: Adapt rapidly, and seamlessly to unpredictable field environments, to maintain sterile, safe blood collection spaces across approximately 10+ daily home visits.
​​

Patient & Client Care: Provide exceptional bedside manner to diverse populations, including pediatric, geriatric, and difficult-to-draw patients, utilizing specialized techniques for fragile or deep veins.
​​

Specimen Processing & Integrity: Centrifuge, aliquot, label, pack, and document specimen temperatures (ambient, refrigerated, frozen) immediately following collection per strict laboratory protocols.

Logistics & Delivery: Manage daily driving routes efficiently and deliver or ship specimens securely to designated laboratories or shipping hubs (FedEx/UPS) within strict time-sensitive windows.

Inventory Management: Maintain a fully stocked, organized, and sanitary mobile collection kit, ensuring all needles, tubes, media, and PPE are unexpired and up to OSHA standards.
2. Hiring Requirements & Qualifications
Certifications & Licensing (Mandatory)

Phlebotomy Certification: Valid Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT) credential from an accredited agency (e.g., NHA, AMT, ASCP, NPCE).

​BLS Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification for healthcare providers.
​​

Driver’s License: Valid Florida Driver's License with a clean driving record (MVR background check required).
Experience & Skills

Experience Baseline: Minimum of 1–2 years of active phlebotomy or phlebotomy field work experience, with a proven track record of independent, unsupervised field performance.

Difficult Draw Mastery: Expert proficiency in butterfly needle usage, hand veins, and drawing from patients with difficult venous access.
​​

Legal/Forensic Familiarity: Previous experience processing Chain of Custody (CoC) forms for legal DNA, rapid drug screens.
Physical & Vehicle Requirements

Reliable Transportation: Access to a reliable, clean, air-conditioned vehicle suitable for transporting medical specimens and collection equipment.

Smart Technology: Ownership of a reliable smartphone capable of running dispatch, mapping, and secure scanning software.

Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 25 lbs, stand for extended periods, and drive long distances comfortably in variable Florida weather.

The Onboarding Process
​
New Hire Onboarding & Training Framework
Phase 1: Compliance & Legal Credentialing (Days 1–3)
​
Before a technician ever enters the field, their medical credentials and legal backgrounds must be thoroughly vetted.
​

Background Screening: Complete a comprehensive Level 2 background check, explicit driving record (MVR) review, and a standard healthcare 10-panel drug screen.
​​

Credential Verification: Collect and verify active copies of Phlebotomy Certifications (NHA, AMT, ASCP, NPCE), and current BLS/CPR cards.
​​

Vehicle & Tool Verification: Inspect the contractors' vehicle for operational air-conditioning (critical for specimen stability) and verify proof of auto insurance and active vehicle registration.
​​

Legal Compliance Paperwork: Execute 1099 Contractor Agreement, IRS tax forms (W-9), a strict Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA), and a HIPAA Compliance Agreement regarding patient data.
Phase 2: Core Protocols & Policy Mastery (Days 4–5)

Introduce the new Independent contractor to company operating standards, billing structures, and logistics apps.
​

​Mobile App Onboarding: Install and set up your active dispatch software, route optimization apps, and secure digital scanner apps on the technician's smartphone.
​​

Supply Kit Uniformity: Issue and audit the standardized mobile collection kit. Ensure Independent Contractor have appropriate inventory control for needles, tubes, centrifuges, ice packs, and PPE.
​​

Florida Laboratory Review: Train the technician on the specific drop-off logistics for major Florida lab hubs (FedEx/UPS drop-off times) to ensure zero missed shipments.
Phase 3: Legal Chain of Custody & DNA Protocol Overview (Days 6–8)

The most critical phase: training the technician to perform collections that withstand intense scrutiny by Florida family law and probate attorneys.
​

Identity Verification Protocol: Train technicians on checking government-issued photo IDs, catching fake identifications, and recording strict physical descriptions.
​​

Forensic Documentation: Practice filling out Chain of Custody (CoC) documents with zero errors. Emphasize that an uncrossed "T" or a missing signature can throw a DNA case out of court.
​​

Biometric Evidence Capture: Train on taking compliant, court-ready facial photographs of participants and capturing clean ink thumbprints (If applicable) on lab documents.
​​

Specimen Integrity & Processing: Train on handling buccal swabs versus legal venipunctures, utilizing mobile centrifuges safely, and executing precise, error-free labeling protocols.
Phase 4: Field Shadowing & Independent Launch (Days 9–10)

Move the technician out of the office and into active field environments under direct observation.

Day 9 (Field Shadowing): The new hire shadows an experienced technician or you on a minimum of three active field dispatches (e.g., a standard home DNA draw, a law office collection, and a courthouse waiting assignment).

Day 10 (Reverse Shadowing): The new hire leads the appointments while you observe silently, verifying their bedside manner, mobile efficiency, safety compliance, and legal paperwork execution.

The Field Pass: Sign off on the Onboarding Checklist and issue their official company ID badge, officially authorizing them to accept independent, unsupervised field dispatches.
